10 Things You Didn't Know About Borderlands 2

9. The Answer To The Ultimate Question Of Life, The Universe, And Everything

Even if you've never read Douglas Addams' The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, odds are, you know the importance of the number 42. Some nerd in your life got a stupid grin on their face when it was mentioned sometime in the past, but if you've read the books, you know. 42.

It seems, the developers of Borderlands 2 are fans of Addams' because references to his work show up throughout the game in various places. Most everything is tied to the number 42, which is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.

Of course, nobody knows what the actual question is, but it hardly matters when you're wasting psychos in Borderlands 2. The number 42 pops up in several notable places. For the base cooldowns for the Gunzerker and Commando, the number will be displayed prominently. It shows up again as an enemy's weak point for Zero's Bore skill.

There's even a weapons mod that has a shot-pattern in the shape of the numbers, but that's only available on the PC. The number can also be found in random places throughout Pandora, so keep your eyes peeled the next time you play, and you might just stumble across the answer to the ultimate question.
