10 Things You Didn't Know About Borderlands 2

8. Handsome Jack's Dialogue Was Largely Ad-Libbed

Handsome Jack is the primary villain in the game, but more than that, he's one of the best video game villains of all time. He doesn't get that designation for being a particularly crafty boss to beat, nor is it because of the challenges he poses; it's all the crazy the crap he says.

Handsome Jack taunts the player throughout the game with various audio clips, and they can get pretty weird. It turns out, a lot of the dialogue present in the final game wasn't written by Anthony Burch; rather, it was largely ad-libbed by Dameon Clarke, the voice-actor who gave life to Handsome Jack.

The best part of the ad-libbed dialogue is that it's completely random and kind of crazy. One famous clip has the character simply say, "These pretzels suck," which begs the question, why was Clarke eating pretzels in the recording booth?

He also went on a long-winded diatribe about a pony, which included comments like, "I'm rackin' my brain trying to think of a name for that diamond pony I bought. I was gonna call it 'piss-for-brains' in honor of you, but that just feels immature. Maybe... 'Butt Stallion?' Nah, that's even worse. I'll give it some more thought."

The dialogue made the character memorable, and it went a long way in building up a villain who seemed somewhat grounded and completely insane at the same time.
