10 Things You Didn't Know About The Warriors

4. Robert De Niro Was Set To Play 'Cowboy'

DreamWorks Pictures

Almost devoid of any stars of the time and comprised of many actors making their first foray into the world of feature films, many of those that have watched this classic tale of inner-city warfare and brotherhood would be surprised to learn that big names had once been attached to the project.

One such figure just so happens to be none other than the beloved Robert De Niro who was seemingly considered for the role of 'Cowboy.' Stories often differ as to how this never occurred ranging from the legendary actor passing on the part to director Walter Hill nixing his involvement due to a total reluctance to cast familiar faces but it's certainly odd to imagine the man that had already starred in films such as Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter taking such a relatively modest role in the film.

In addition to De Niro's possible involvement, Kevin Bacon was also originally set to appear in the film during a scrapped sequence in which Swan is kidnapped by a 'homosexual gang with doberman pincers' known as The Dingoes.
