If you're worried about the official Switch dock permanently damaging the tablet's bezels and don't want to invest in third-party models that may or may not completely brick your console, then you can build your own nifty little Switch dock instead.

All you need to do is shop around and buy a dock casing - there are all sorts of models you can find on Amazon - and then remove the internals from your official Switch dock and transfer them to the case. This is a relatively simple process and all cases should come with clear instructions, so don't worry if you aren't too tech-savvy.

Building your own DIY dock has several advantages. One, due to the wide range of products available, you might be able to find one that comes in a fancy colour or with a cool, unique design. Two, most dock casings allow you to actually see the Switch's screen while it's docked, removing the possibility of that aforementioned bezel damage. Dock casings also typically have better ventilation, and their smaller size makes them more portable.

As always, be wary of any permanent damage you may inflict on your Switch, and that messing with the dock will void your warranty. But if you're confident, this is a neat trick that allows you to build a much better dock than the official one.
