After a hard day's work it's sometimes a right pain having to locate the TV remote, turn it on (especially if you have a centre speaker that blocks the TV's IR sensor), plonk down on the couch and get into a comfortable position before you start gaming.

And yes, that sounds incredibly lazy to say, and no, we're not sorry. But wouldn't it be nice to be able to skip steps one and two? Well, with the Switch, you can.

You'll need a relatively modern TV - models from 2014 and earlier may not be compatible - then all you need to do is hold down the home button (at the bottom of the right Joy-Con) to power on both your Switch and your TV simultaneously.

First though, head into your TV's settings and look for a feature named HDMI Sync/CEC/BraviaSync, or something along those lines. The gist of this feature is that when one HDMI device is powered on, other connected HDMI devices will turn on with it. With this setting enabled - and your Switch connected via HDMI (and turned on at the socket) - you're good to go.

He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
