10 Things You Need To Know About Halo Wars 2
9. Strategy Is King
Despite bearing the Halo brand name, as an entity, Halo Wars has tended to remain a solid side entry to the franchise overall, and that's a shame, as from both a technical standpoint - especially with this sequel's production values - and the feel of planning an entire battle's worth of moves one after another, the RTS genre can be incredibly rewarding.
Back in the halcyon days of the PS1, titles like the aforementioned Command & Conquer were consistent top-sellers, yet over the years - and thanks somewhat to Halo being an outstanding, system-selling FPS - the industry embraced more set piece-filled thrill rides, though that tide is starting to shift yet again. The excellent XCOM 2 was a mainstay in many peoples' Game of the Year lists for 2016, and recently, Nintendo's Fire Emblem Heroes is dominating the mobile scene, one square at a time.
It's true Halo Wars is a dyed-in-the-wool RTS for fans and newcomers alike, but with the very nature of turn-based combat making a comeback, along with it, we're being reintroduced to a more tactile way to play.
