10 Things You Never Knew About Zelda: Twilight Princess
1. The Game Started Off As A Sequel To Wind Waker
In 2000, Nintendo revealed a teaser at Spaceworld of the upcoming LoZ game for the GameCube. Fans were in awe at the 30-second clip since Link and Ganondorf had never looked more realistic.
When Shigeru Miyamoto decided to go in a different direction and give the upcoming game, Wind Waker, a cartoony cel-shaded aesthetic, fans were displeased. Although Wind Waker was praised for its design and gameplay, people were still clamouring for a more realistic game.
However, Miyamoto intended for the follow-up to be directly connected to Wind Waker and would follow Link as an adult. The Wind Waker baton can be found in the game's code, proving the artefact was supposed to be a part of Twilight Princess.
Not only that, Twilight Princess was meant to maintain the same cel-shaded look of its predecessor. Miyamoto recanted this decision, saying a cel-shaded adult Link wouldn't look right.
Many people believe the real reason Miyamoto changed his mind was due to pressure from fans to make a more lifelike Zelda game. Considering Wind Waker sold almost half the amount of Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess became the most successful Zelda game at the time, it seems Miyamoto made the right call.
