One year after Twilight Princess's came out, a spin-off was released called Link's Crossbow Training. Throughout the game, you shoot targets either from a first-person or third-person point of view. Interestingly, Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to make a LoZ game with a first-person perspective since Ocarina of Time. An early demo shows sections of Twilight Princess were meant to be in first-person but this concept was ultimately abandoned.

Link's Crossbow Training may seem like a simple side-game to Twilight Princess but Miyamoto planned it to be an official sequel. The development team spent months working on an epic storyline and more elaborate mechanics before Miyamoto repurposed the game as a spin-off. Upon hearing the news, the developers were horrified. Some of them considered abandoning the project entirely since it wouldn't be offering consumers anything new.

But Miyamoto wasn't finished with his wild suggestions. Despite the fact the series is usually based in a fantasy world, Miyamoto considered arming Link with a gun. When the developers said this idea would jar with the medieval-like era, Miyamoto considered incorporating a time-travel element where Link is transported to the future. Thankfully, these ideas were shot down.
