10 Things You Never Knew About Zelda: Twilight Princess
4. Midna's Helm May Be Connected Majora's Mask
Midna wears a helm, which was created by the Twilis' ancestors, The Interlopers. Eagle-eyed gamers noticed the helm resembled Majora's mask - a mystical artefact used by The Ancient Ones. Because of the similarities between the helm and the mask, it wasn't long before theorists concluded that The Interlopers and The Ancient Ones were one and the same. Since Majora's Mask takes place in another dimension, it's also possible The Ancient Ones are the parallel versions of The Interlopers.
The more you look into it, the more similarities you notice between the two mysterious tribes. Majora controls his victims with masks. Many Twili (including Zant) wear masks. Like Majora's final form, Zant screeches and contorts his body while battling Link. In unused art, Midna wears a mask resembling the one that embodies Majora. The Happy Mask Salesman tells Link the mask was hidden in the shadows; a possible reference to how the Twili live in The Realm of Shadows. The Interlopers and The Ancient Ones are both described as being heavily skilled magicians who suddenly vanished from Hyrule.
Although The LoZ encyclopaedia, Hyrule Historia, didn't confirm this theory, it didn't dismiss it either, suggesting there might be something to it.
