10 Things Your Favourite Video Game Developers Want You To Forget
8. Sonic's 25th Anniversary Disaster - Sega
Oh, the humanity.
Very rare do you see a company with such a storied history, such a diehard fanbase and such a simple thing to pull off (just put on a lights n' laser show that's even vaguely Sonic-themed) resulting in a catastrophic clusterf*ck as Sonic's 25th Anniversary.
Toe-curlingly cringeworthy events and things included (in no particular order):
- A constant buzzing throughout the entire livestream.
- A man in a Sonic costume who moved with such a marked lack of confidence and speed, he ironically embodied Sonic's need to hit the retirement home.
- An assuredly lucrative Totino's Stuffed Nachos partnership that definitely didn't result in hosts forcing themselves to like said product, grimacing as they remarked on how "utterly delicious" they were.
- One of the worst performances of anything ever, by a band called Crush 40, who after many failed singalong attempts from the crowd were forced to fill time on a badly organised schedule, resulting in the singer just having a lie down.
- Literally every single second of everything except the 1:58 of Sonic Mania's reveal, which - just for almost two minutes - reminded us why Sonic ever really mattered in the first place.
