10 Times Gaming Developers Brutally Messed With Historical Events
9. All Those Alternate Inventions - Fallout 3
History suggests that one of the most important inventions in human history was the transistor, a semiconductor device used to amplify electrical power which, in turn, revolutionised the field of electronics in the process. Without it, for example, we wouldn't have modern computers and mobile phones.
Unfortunately for the people that find themselves struggling to survive in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of Bethesda's Fallout series, that didn't quite happen the same way.
Unlike the real world, where the transistor became the forefront for future inventions post World War II, the Fallout Universe instead saw a greater investment in advanced robotics, nuclear power and energy weapons, mixed with a distinctive 1950s style flair.
That critically important change in human history would lead to a very different evolutionary chain of events, with any technological inventions limited by the lack of the transistor and stuck in a slower rate of evolution. The retro tech may be Bethesda's chosen aesthetic, but it isn't exactly streamlined. Imagine playing Valorant on a clunky, giant mainframe style computer system in every shade of glorious green and you get the idea.
