10 Times Metal Gear Solid Was A Total Dick To Fans
9. Peace Walkers Necessity To The Canon
Now let's make this clear; Peace Walker is a phenomenal game - perhaps one of the top three in the entire canon depending on where you started and how much you can tolerate the crazier aspects of the story. However aside from its initial PSP release the only other way to play this is through the updated 'HD Collection' which as you can imagine actually looks jarringly bad when you up-res a bunch of portable game textures to home console standards. The point of contention though, is that both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain continue off almost directly from where Peace Walker left off, with PP's base-building mechanic being a iterative copy of the PW one, leaving almost every fan feeling like they totally missed out on something even though they've played hundreds of hours of the main series already. It's just one of those crazy things where it 'makes sense' (to us anyway) that 'crazy ol' Kojima' would put some of his most essential story beats in a title you actively have to seek out, rather than do an upgrade properly - for the sake of treating all the games equally. But at the same time, come on; who's going to fire up a game from four years ago to make sure they're best equipped for what's to come in 2015? The fans, most likely, but it doesn't make slogging through a portable title on a home console anything less than a slog.
