10 Times Pokémon Games Were Censored For Western Audiences

6. The Game Corner Slot Machines Are Disabled

As time went on, PEGI's stance on gambling got even tougher. Not content with simply renaming the Gamblers as Gamers and Private Investigators, the Game Corner in Pokémon Platinum, a staple in the franchise since the original games, had the slot machines disabled. If the player attempted to use one, a line of text appeared instead, confirming the obvious that the contraption was indeed a game machine.

Despite not being able to use them, it was still possible to receive a coin case, and to collect coins used for playing the slots as well.

The Game Corner was also heavily edited in the HeartGold and SoulSilver games. The machines in Celadon City were replaced with a card flipping game, and this edit was integrated into every copy released outside of Japan, not just the European and American versions.

From Generation 5 onward, there hasn't been another Game Corner because of the fuss it brought about. The remakes of Ruby and Sapphire still had the building, but it is closed down by the time the protagonist reaches Mauville City.
