10 Times Pokémon Games Were Censored For Western Audiences

In Pokémon Colosseum, released for the Nintendo GameCube, the young female sidekick, Rui, had to be given a longer skirt and top. The Japanese version of Rui also had a significantly bigger bust that had to be made smaller for the international market.

The age of consent in Japan is lower than it is across the western world, so while the images of Rui didn't cause concern in Asia, it certainly raised red flags in Europe and America.

The Gen 2 Beauties were also given longer skirts, and male Swimmers were given swimming shorts as opposed to tight speedos. Even though the Beauty and Swimmer trainers appeared to be older than characters such as Rui, the ratings board felt it necessary to down-play any sexual undertones in all future games.
