10 Times Silent Hill Was Absolutely Terrifying

7. The Ambush In The Alleyway - Silent Hill

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqX423zGycY Regarding its graphical quality, Silent Hill has not aged well. Despite this setback, the original game still admirably demonstrates the series€™ penchant for building overwhelming tension, and it essentially sets the bar with Harry€™s introduction to the eponymous town. The scene in which Harry frantically searches for his daughter in an a dark alleyway is in many ways the defining scene because it utilises the fixed camera angles, dark atmosphere and strange sights that define Team Silent's style. For example, the long dark alleyway gives players time to imagine the threat at the end, the upturned wheelchair with its wheels unnaturally spinning provides a bizarre, unnerving image for them to think about, and the ambush at the end demonstrates how dangerous the town€™s monsters can be. While Harry may encounter stranger things in the town, this scene serves as the perfect introduction not just for this game but for the franchise, and it establishes the formula that the latter games would improve upon.
