5. The First Encounter With Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2
Team Silent excelled at creating jump scares because they knew how to lull the characters into a false security and then build upon the scare in order to create a sense of dread. Such is the case when James first encounters the fan favourite Silent Hill antagonist, Pyramid Head. The loud scream would be enough to cause most players to jump, but seeing him behind metal bars just staring worsens the fear considerably. Although the killer of the man is unknown, players can only assume that the body serves as a warning from what's to come. Later, fans would later learn what Pyramid Head represents: James desire to be punished for his crime. This particular jump scare has more layers than it initially appears to be, especially when compared to the scene in which a bathroom door unexpectedly opens.
