10 Times Video Game Developers Lied Straight To Your Face

9. Halo 5's "Hunt The Truth" Trailers

The lies surrounding Halo 5 started pretty much as soon as it was unveiled. The initial trailer, showing Master Chief wandering through a desert, had no relevance to the actual game, nor did subsequent ads close to release prompting players to "Hunt the Truth".

Showing events from both the perspective of the Chief as well as new playable character Locke, both outcomes ended with an execution of one character or the other in a decimated city, while the USNC's Infinity exploded in the sky above. However, not only did the two opposing perspectives not end up in the final game, but this entire scene (and entire scenario) would be entirely absent from the story.

Likewise, although the Chief was actually set up as the villain for once, with Locke hunting him down on the assumption he had betrayed his people, this relationship was never capitalised on. Nothing that was promised actually happened, and fans were left wondering just what the hell happened to make the final release so disjointed from its pre-release hype.
