10 Times Video Game Developers Lied Straight To Your Face

At this point, six years on, complaining about the ending of Mass Effect 3 is like flogging a dead horse, but it would be amiss to not mention the broken developer promises that made the release so controversial.

Even away from the narrative decisions, fans were promised a finale that honoured all of their prior decisions and wrapped the story up in a personal way. In fact, director Casey Hudson even stated that he wouldn't just boil the ending down to an A, B or C choice, but reaffirmed that each fan would end up with something different.

Of course, what fans got was literally a choice between A, B and C endings that closed the trilogy off in one of three pre-defined ways. Of course, it probably would have been impossible to create a satisfying ending that respected the individual playthroughs of millions of people across three games, but if the developers couldn't do it, they shouldn't have promised it.
