10 Times Video Game Developers Lied Straight To Your Face

3. No Man's Sky's... Everything

No Mans Sky
Hello Games

If we're being honest, there was no way No Man's Sky was going to live up to the unwieldy expectations players had for it.

Of course, the way both Sony and Hello Games fanned the flames of these expectations didn't help matters, with players still not knowing for sure what they were getting even a month away from release. By being coy in interviews or just lying entirely in trailers, a bunch of features were promised that would never actually materialise in the finished game, with the main absence being the lack of multiplayer.

The disappointment was felt so thoroughly that many dubbed the game "No Man's Lie" after release, with fans furious that they'd been misled. Fortunately, the title has pulled itself around in the intervening years, finally living up to the expectations that players had at launch.
