The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Moving into RPG territory, The Witcher franchise follows the titular monster slayer Geralt of Rivia and in CD Projekt's second release, he meets his equal. Letho of Gullet is a fellow Witcher from the School of the Viper, one who ends up framing Geralt for regicide in the game's prologue. They find themselves crossing blades later on and Letho becomes the driving force behind the protagonist’s efforts to clear his name.

The man mountain of an antagonist spares Geralt out of deep respect and their previous dealings. As The Witcher 2 goes on, it's revealed that they once worked together, teaming up to track down the Wild Hunt and rescue Geralt's lover Yennefer. He was eventually captured by the Nilfgaard Empire to the south and cut a deal with them.

Letho would get his freedom, but in return he would head north and assassinate the kings throughout the region, destabilising the region and paving the way for an eventual invasion. After killing both Demavend and Foltest, he becomes a wanted fugitive, one who Geralt can either kill or spare himself at the game's conclusion.

As we learn more about him, Letho's motives become more clear, subtly nudging the towards one side over another when deciding his fate.
