10 Times Video Game Villains Spared You
8. GLaDOS - Portal 2
Portal's first person platforming puzzles were a huge hit with the gaming community, but its most memorable aspect was the primary antagonist. GLaDOS is a hostile artificial intelligence who took over the Aperture Science test facility. Murdering all its scientists with a deadly neurotoxin, her purpose became singular.
She exists only to put unwilling test subjects through Aperture's test chambers, verbally abusing them along the way. In the original game, it's safe to say she ended up choosing the wrong candidate.
After escaping the final test chamber, silent protagonist Chell was able to destroy the menacing machine. GLaDOS was far from dead however, as the robot was able to piece herself back together for the events of Portal 2. In this sequel she ends up in conflict with Wheatley, who proceeds to seize control and implant GLaDOS in a potato.
Spending much of the game alongside our heroine, GLaDOS goes from wanting her dead to forming a new perspective on the test chamber; something which manifests in the game's ultimate climax.
As the turrets break out into song at the game's conclusion, GLaDOS's perspective is now one of acceptance, as she allows Chell to leave Aperture Science for good. "Now I only want you gone" speaks to her renewed consensus and ends Portal 2 on a great note.
