5. X-Men - Reset

As if X-Men on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis wasn't hard enough already, it also threw in a crazy, fourth-wall breaking moment to confuse and terrify anyone who played it. At one point, this game actually asks you to reset your console in order to continue.

It's important to remember that this game was released back in the early-'90s, at a time when autosaves just didn't exist. Normally, if you hit the reset button on your console, you'd have to restart the entire game again, so players were extremely hesitant to follow the game's instructions, especially as this particular moment came in the fifth level, right after a tricky boss fight, meaning that players ran the risk of losing a lot of progress if the reset went wrong.

Fortunately, it was all part of the game's design, but you still could lose your progress if you pressed the button too hard. Players had to very lightly push the console's reset button in order to trigger the game's next scene.
