There really couldn't be any other example at the top of this list. While other examples are far more egregious, this is the only example that has blown up in its company's face so amazingly, that it actually put them in legal hot water.

For the 2 or 3 of you still not in the know, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released with a loot box system that gave you, among other things, the ability to play as your favorite Star Wars characters.

Of course, these characters give those who have them a distinct advantage in game, able to turn entire battles around. And the fact that you had to rely on a random number generator that ate up your money and would often just hand you something you already had for your trouble, made a lot of people VERY angry indeed.

It got to the point where several governments' gambling commissions took a hard look at the gaming industry and started investigating whether or not loot boxes counted as gambling. This system ripped gamers off so badly that it blew the cover off of the whole scheme for everyone.

This is why no one likes you, EA.
