4. Batman Arkham Series: Finding The Riddler Items

Rocksteady's Batman Arkham franchise has enjoyed high acclaim for more than a decade thanks to its sublime action, solid gameplay and intense attention to detail. One area that's become a point of contention however are the Riddler side quests.

Back in Arkham Asylum, the Riddler trophies among other items were a decent way of switching up the pace, the compact setting filled with all sorts of little nooks and crannies for the villain to hide. But when Arkham City arrived, the sheer amount of collectibles increased drastically.

Suddenly gamers were tasked were finding the Riddler items across a much larger map and with multiple interior sections to boot. This caused a drastic uptick in backtracking and wandering through previously explored areas with no shortcuts to take. Some players chose not to pursue the side quest as a result and this only continued into Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight.

Ironically enough though, the Riddler's endlessly conniving attempts to outsmart the world's greatest detective proved to be a strong fit for his character. Aiming to beat the Dark Knight into submission through sheer amount of tedium and long-winded exploration, taunting him every step of the way. Intentional or otherwise, the riddler side quests may have been drawn out too much, but contextually, they have their moments.
