10 Times Video Games Used Reverse Psychology (And It Totally Worked)

8. The Game Tells You To Move (But Pagan Min Tells You To Stay Put) - Far Cry 4

The start of Far Cry 4 bombards players with a giant of reverse psychology, as they sit down with the villainous Pagan Min at his lush mansion.

In the opening cutscene, Min will tell the player to sit tight and enjoy some crab Rangoon while he heads off to attend to some business, after which the cutscene ends and the player is given control of Ajay.

In any typical video game, this is of course shorthand for "get up and start playing," because sitting down won't get you anywhere.

Again, in a typical video game.

But here, players can actually unlock a secret ending if they do as Min instructed and just...hang out in the dining area for almost 15 minutes.

Min will then return, thank Ajay for staying put, take him to the Lakshmana's shrine, and allow him to place his mother's ashes there peacefully, before inviting him to hang out and shoot some guns.

Naturally only the most observant players noticed they were being subtly messed with right at the start of the game, but word quickly spread online. Though Far Cry 5 repeated the trick, players were largely savvy to it by this point.
