10 Times You Bought The Wrong Video Game INTENTIONALLY

7. Buying Pokemon Channel For Pokemon Mini (And Jirachi)

Pokemon Channel is a weird package. It was hailed as the “ultimate disk of goodies for Pokemon fans”, when it came out, yet trying to itemise the reasons to own it is like listing off reasons to staple your genitals.

The Pokemon Company must’ve been aware of its dubious value, because when it arrived on the shelves as a GameCube exclusive, the main selling point for it was that it came with a rare psychic legendary Pokemon, Jirachi, for your handheld games, as a bonus download.

Even if you really wanted to watch the Pichu Bros cartoon that was watchable, piecemeal, one episode per real-world day, the chances are you really picked up Pokemon Channel for that Jirachi, the included (and ill-fated) E-Reader cards for that device... and the Pokemon Mini.

The Pokemon Mini was an actual game console used solely to play Pokemon-specific games, and Pokemon Channel included a digital emulated version of the device. Given that the console was very difficult to find, fans bought in to this next-best-thing solution.

Given that the games were all a bit guff, I’d wager it’s still the “best” way to play ‘em - a Pokemon Mini’ll cost you about £200 on eBay today.
