2. Fighting Predictably - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V's story may have proven massively divisive, but just about everyone agrees that the gameplay is second-to-none for the stealth-action genre.

Hideo Kojima's eye for detail is more meticulous than it's ever been, resulting in a game that reacts to the player's individual play-style with a disturbing fluidity.

We all love nailing headshots on unsuspecting enemies, but do that enough in MGSV and you'll find that the soldiers start wearing helmets to prevent this. And if you try to change things up by aiming for the body, they'll eventually stock up on body armour and shields.

Even the stealthiest players will find that enemy fortresses start to fit surveillance cameras, mines, and other tricks to try and catch them out, and guards will start to ignore their attempts at distractions.

Basically, Kojima designed the game to "punish" players who get a little too complacent and just repeat the same old tactics ad nauseum, rather than employing a diverse series of combat strategies. It's brilliant, honestly.
