10 Times YOU Made A Video Game Harder
3. Playing With A Friend - The House Of The Dead III
As fun as light gun games might be solo, they're always more enjoyable with a friend, right?
Except, the majority of these games are designed with arcades in mind rather than console play, and so the developers want to ensure that there's no material benefit from teaming up together. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Case in point, we have The House of the Dead III, which doesn't merely stop at doubling the number of zombies to compensate for the second player, but also doubles pretty much every mechanical trick the game has to offer.
For instance, the sloth-like boss known as The Fool has a swipe attack which requires six shots to negate when played solo, but this doubles to 12 for multiplayer, and if your buddy isn't quite the quick-draw that you are, it can result in some infuriating lost lives.
Co-op play can be fun to kill a few minutes at the arcade, but if you're genuinely keen to beat House of the Dead III and many similar light gun shooters, you're better off going it alone, even if only to preserve your friendships.
