10 Trailers That Completely Misrepresented Their Video Games
1. Redfall
One of this year’s indisputably largest disappointments came in the form of Redfall. Coming from the likes of Arkane Studios and Bethesda we expected big things, or at least pretty solid things. What we got was one of video games biggest milkshake ducks.
What was promised was a lush open world filled with colourful characters to inhabit that you could explore with your friends as you took on a horde of vampires.
Cool, right? Well, that’s what we thought. While we expected a game world replete with Arkane’s signature knack for detail and gameplay that was nuanced and filled with variety in approaches, what we got was a glitchy and surprisingly dull experience with repetitive gameplay, uninspired storylines, and few reasons to engage. This one is such a departure from what we expected that it's kind of impressive they were able to make it look so good in the trailer. Well done to the video editors, really.
This should have been a multiplayer playground, and admittedly many of the enemy designs are genuinely spooky and intriguing, but almost every other aspect falls flat.
