10 Trends That Are Killing Video Games

2. On-Disc DLC

Here's something that should make gamers the world over rage, and if not, why the Hell not!? It's an extremely crass practise in which DLC actually already comes on the game that you've paid £40 for, but is hidden from the player, and then offered as a supplementary purchase at a later date. But paying the money for the DLC doesn't actually result in a download - all it does is provide a "key" that unlocks the content on the disc, indeed, the content you probably already should have unlocked when you paid for the game with your freaking credit card. It's not really the idea of paying for additional content that bothers us - though when they release it so soon after, it does seem extremely cheap - but the fact that developers don't even have the tact to make us download this content; they have the sheer cheek to pack it into the disc and then charge us payment after payment to open everything up. It's a horrible practise that only makes developers seem more opaque during a time in which they really need to be transparent, as issues over things like this, second-hand sales and so on continue to rage.
