10 Triple-A Video Games You Just Gave Up On

5. Xenoblade Chronicles

Red Dead Redemption 2
Nintendo

You might think I’m desperate to pick on JRPGs in particular by this point, but it really isn’t the case - I hate all frustratingly over-engineered games equally.

There’s actually a lot to like in Xenoblade Chronicles (and its sequel), including the painfully humorous English voice acting (Shulk, despite his name immediately making me think of She Hulk, sounds like those YouTube videos of Americans trying to do an Olde Tyme Gentle Englishman voice).

Yet, the game itself is structured something akin to an MMORPG without the other players - grinding is recommended, and without real human players to scream at for being useless (because I’m pulling my weight and it’s everyone else’s fault we lost the raid) I tend to lose a bit of impetus.

Xenoblade Chronicles also does the enraging “it gets good after you’ve played for 15-20 hours” thing that people keep saying as if that’s not an absolutely abysmal condemnation of your game’s pacing - if you have to play your game for 2 hours a day for over a week before you start having fun, your game has failed at being fun.

And no, I was not “railly feelenng ihht.”
