10 Triple-A Video Games You Just Gave Up On

6. Alien Isolation

Red Dead Redemption 2
Sega

Unlike some of the other games on this list, Alien Isolation is neither bad nor overly unoriginal. In fact, it’s arguable that whilst we’ve had plenty of Aliens games, we’ve never really had an Alien game until now (the distinction, the cultured amongst you will already know, is that whilst the sequels were all action movies, the original was undeniably a horror).

And yet, I found myself unable to finish the game.

Now, you might be thinking that it has something to do with dread or terror, but survival horror is actually my favourite subgenre - the reason Alien Isolation is difficult to finish can be attributed to overall game length, and randomised behaviour.

For starters, the game should have ended several times before it eventually does reach the credits, with a lot of the game focused on the far less exciting android encounters, and when the xenomorph does appear, its inconsistent behaviour and harsh single-hit kill means that learning from death is rarely a consistent thing.

Incidentally, this is why a lot of people love Alien Isolation, but for me, losing significant progress due to the roll of a dice isn’t for me.
