10 Triple-A Video Games You Just Gave Up On

3. Red Dead Redemption 2

Likely another controversial pick, but I’m glad knowing that, at least in terms of the polls on Reddit and Gamefaqs, I’m absolutely not alone in feeling that Red Dead Redemption 2 was a bit of a... chore.

Being a real fan of the original, I was excited to see the direction in which they were going to take it - to me, having a “wild west GTA” has always been great, with the notion of a crime-filled, tongue-in-cheek playground mixed with the more calm, bucolic tone found in the surrounding deserts. Yet, for the sequel, it seemed they wanted to really distance themselves from the GTA parallel, and made something more akin to Oregon Trail than Vice City.

With an unhealthy obsession of making every action as realistic as possible, the removal of the gamified elements meant everything from traversing terrain to picking up cans of beans is a pronounced, deliberate, heavy affair. I found myself actively avoiding doing button-related things when I discovered how much they’d slow me down.

To me, they’d created an impressive, immersive experience, but a wholly unenjoyable game, one which is more desperate to be accurate... than fun.
