10 Truly Awful Video Game Movies Sonic Might Be Worse Than

1. Alone In The Dark

Alone In The Dark has the less than illustrious reputation of being the worst video game movie of all time.

There’s a lot of competition, considering how bad the previous nine have been and the garbage that didn’t make the cut, but still; Alone In The Dark is king of the trash pile. It sits at a 2.3 on IMDb, and a staggeringly low 9 out of 100 on Metacritic. Sonic can’t be worse than this, surely.

With Christian Slater, Stephen Dorff and Tara Reid leading, it’s easy to point the finger at Reid, but she actually does the best job. Director Uwe Boll has blamed her in interviews, but she’s doing her normal shitck while the two more accomplished leads fall flat.

Boll not only directed the runner up here Bloodrayne, he also directed the terrible Far Cry movie, so he probably wants to blame himself.

The effects are awful and way over used, the script completely changes the game’s rather compelling story, and the dark, mysterious, tense tone of gameplay has been abandoned for schlocky horror. Oh, and after test audiences had no idea what was going on, an opening text crawl was added to explain the entire plot.

Your move, Sonic.
