8. Sidequests
Sidequests come in many forms. You have battle quests, fetch quests, impossible to complete quests, even infinitely spawning quests. These usually only serve to add more content to flesh out your time with a game, but these can turn into games of their own, easily taking over your core experience. Most provide tremendous incentives, making them all the more tempting. Soon, you'll be berating yourself for stressing out over things you don't even have to do to complete the game. Games like the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, are the worst (and by worst, I mean best) offenders. The director of the game, Todd Howard, has stated that the game features randomly generating quests. Meaning, you're never done questing in this game. There's always something to do, and even more things to distract you. Hence the reason you'll start playing this game at one in the afternoon, only to look around after what felt like five minutes and realize it's three in the morning. And you have to go to work in four hours... So, if you have an addictive personality, this probably isn't the game for you. It'll have you coming back for weeks, maybe months, possibly even years.
