7. Collectibles
Once again, an innocent method of prolonging a game's longevity turns into a time consuming, eye reddening, obsessive compulsive chore. Most games have small collectibles hidden throughout the game world, just waiting to be picked up and added to your completely useless list of items. But because of your unwavering sense of pride, you will scour the land faithfully, turning over crates and barrels, diving in deep waters, and setting things on fire just to add to your collection of useless treasures. Recent offender: Tomb Raider. This franchise reboot has Lara Croft shooting lanterns, collecting GPS caches, and dissembling salvage crates. For what? Well...you get some experience. And maybe a slightly better bow and arrow. But it's mostly just for your ego. Oh, and if you find all the GPS caches, you get a secret reward. Nothing big I'm afraid, but I won't spoil it. But at least you'll have the honor of knowing that you achieved such a thing. If that means anything to you...
