A game that was completely overshadowed by the later Arkham franchise, Batman Begins was sadly lost in obscurity. Released in 2005 to decent reviews, Batman begins was trumped only a few years later by Arkham Asylum in terms of gameplay and visuals, however the game does have some compelling features.

The use of a “fear meter” to weaken enemies through the manipulation of the environment and various gadgets in batman’s arsenal creates a strategic, stealth-based dynamic that other Batman games don’t explore enough, and the Burnout style police chases in the tumbler Batmobile are fantastic for the time, complete with takedown animations.

Most of the cast from the movie reprise their roles, and Batman Begins has an excellent soundtrack and general sense of foreboding, heightening the tension during those stealth sections. The story is also more fleshed out than that of the film, whereas many games based on movies merely copy the story beat for beat.

Overall this is an excellent game, and one that ranks highly among the many Batman games out there.
