10 Underrated Video Games That Need Sequels

5. Split/Second

Alpha Protocol
Disney

Developed by Black Rock Studios, Split/Second was released in 2010. The racing game put players in a fictional reality TV show. It featured different events as well as an impressive roster of vehicles.

What set it apart from other titles, however, was the inclusion of Power Plays. By performing stylish driving, the Power Play meter was filled. The meter featured 3 levels. Levels 1 and 2 triggered explosions and shockwaves that could damage nearby cars. A Level 3 Power Play, on the other hand, caused plane crashes, dam explosions and more. These feats of destruction provided pure spectacle and felt like being inside a Michael Bay movie.

What made this feature unique was how it served as a potential hazard for the player. Reckless drivers could use a Power Play but have it backfire on themselves, adding a layer of strategy as players couldn't just blindly activate these.

2010 was filled with racing titles wanting to be the next big thing. Along with Split/Second, the game Blur was released which led to an overcrowded competition. This led to these games selling poorly, and their commercial failures shut the door on potential sequels. With the closure of devs Black Rock Studios, it is unlikely for the series to continue.
