10 Underrated Video Games That Need Sequels
4. Fight Night Champion
From basketball, baseball, football, golf and more, EA has covered every sport imaginable. One of their beloved franchises was the Fight Night series. The game featured real-life playable boxers to choose which led to dream matches such as Muhammad Ali versus Mike Tyson.
Fight Night Champion was the last game in the series. Having a darker tone compared to its predecessors, the sequel aimed to show the brutality of the sport. This was executed through realistic graphics as well as a detailed damage system. Boxers could have their eyes cut and bleed profusely or look mangled by the end of a match. The title also featured the 'Full-Spectrum Punch Control System.' Flicking the right analog stick would execute a punch while moving it in a half circle led to an uppercut. This control scheme made the game intuitive as well as accessible for new players.
The highlight, however, was Champion Mode. This put players in the gloves of Andre Bishop in his rise and fall from grace. It featured great voice acting and made players feel like they were the star of their own sports movie. This addition was unique to Fight Night Champion as most sports titles didn't feature a story based campaign at the time - that would come much later in EA's other titles.
Despite good reviews, there hasn't been a new entry possibly due to expensive licensing for the boxers. With current generation hardware, a potential sequel could further push the boundaries of realism and honor the sport.
