10 Unexpected Times Video Games Creeped You Out
7. Fallout 3 - Andale
For a game that isn't really a horror game, Fallout 3 sure does have a lot of horrific locations, mostly those hit by Super Mutants or Raiders. One of my personal favourites is Vault 108, which only ever had one resident and a cloning machine.
Cloning himself repeatedly, Gary soon found that several generations of clones got mentally weaker over time, eventually only speaking the word "Gary" in different tones. Portrayed in the game as hilarious, this tale of loneliness and slowly encroaching madness is equal parts chilling when you're not being chased by someone saying "Hahaha, Gary!"
But it's the peaceful town of Andale that holds true horror for the player. Seemingly holding onto their pre-war stylings, Andale seems the cradle of civilisation in an otherwise untamed land, right up until the moment you pick the lock to their basements and start to understand what they've done to survive.
Twisting their faith to incorporate cannibalism, the founding families of Andale prey on unwary travellers, taking them below the pristine streets to their personal slaughter chambers where they are butchered and served up as the latest meal to these people still living the American Dream.
