10 Unforgettable Resident Evil Moments

1. First Zombie - Resident Evil (1996, 2001)

In all honesty, it was pretty hard figuring out the placements of this list, but this one was easy. Without a doubt the most memorable moment of the entire franchise is the very first zombie encounter in both the original Resident Evil and the 2001 remake. In my case, the remake was actually the first Resident Evil game I ever played. I was 12 and went in with zero expectations. Needless to say, that first encounter unnerved me to my core. The atmosphere already had me on edge before that moment, but that first zombie made me realize that I was in for a chilling experience. Like much of the moments on this list, this scene's elegance lies in its simplicity. The remaining S.T.A.R.S. members have regrouped in the Spencer Mansion. However, they realize that one of them is missing. Suddenly, a gun shot goes off. Wesker sends Jill/Chris to investigate. You make your way through an eerily silent dinning hall. Upon exiting, you turn left and discover Kenneth's body being gorged on by a zombie. It slowly turns its head and stares at you...and then tries to eat you. It€™s such a simple scene, but executed perfectly. The 2001 version, in particular, is genuinely scary. Zombies are rarely threatening in themselves, but the design of this zombie, with its blank white eyes and detailed rotting flesh, is a truly creepy monster. The framing, showing it hunched over poor Kenneth€™s body with an all black background, adds a surreal nature to it. Combined with the bone-chilling score and sound design, this scene is certainly the creepiest of the series, and is certainly an unforgettable moment for many Resident Evil fans, whether it's in the original or the remake. And there you have it, 10 unforgettable moments in the Resident Evil franchise. There are so many great moments in this series, it was hard to narrow it down to 10.
