10 Unforgiving Video Games Hardly Anyone Can Beat
4. Super Meat Boy (2010)
2010's Super Meat Boy made a real splash when it first became available to play, dominating the indie scene and quickly establishing itself as one of the world's most frustratingly difficult titles to complete.
Players take control of Meat Boy, a small red cube, on his quest to save his girlfriend Bandage Girl from the evil scientist Dr. Fetus. The game consists of over 300 levels, and was inspired by the replayability of titles like Super Mario Bros. and Ghosts N' Goblins, meaning the developers went out of their way to make sure players were dying as frequently as possible.
The ability to slide up all four walls and paint the level with the meat juice that explodes across the screen when players die gives Super Meat Boy a unique dimension when it comes to level design, requiring precise timings, jumps, and a painstaking amount of trial-and-error for every stage.
In total, over Super Meat Boy has over 100,000 registered players on Xbox Live alone, with just over 1,000 (roughly 1%) of those completing the final level, 7-20X since its release.
