10 Unhinged Video Game Characters That Would've Made Perfect Villains

3. Adam 'Kane' Marcus (Kane & Lynch: Dead Men)

You might have been expecting Lynch to make this list due to the fact that he€™s a highly medicated, paranoid schizophrenic with much less of a grip on reality than Kane. He acts recklessly and unpredictably, killing innocent bystanders and wreaking levels of havoc that are unfathomable, but he€™s also prone to hallucinations that prevent him from fully comprehending a given situation. What€™s Kane€™s excuse? Both men are killers who don€™t seem to value human life very highly, but at least Lynch knows that he€™s an evil scumbag that deserves to die, at least he takes accountability for his evilness. Kane€™s continuous justifying of his own misdeeds is what makes him truly dislikeable. He€™s manipulative, spineless and hypocritical, often dismissing any blame for his terrible acts of barbarism on account of the need to save his family. Now I know I mentioned early that having compelling motivations can make a character more sympathetic, but with Kane I get the impression that his family just aren€™t really his primary concern. In fact, it seems as though he€™s only saving them to expunge his own deep-seated feelings of guilt at getting them involved in the situation in the first place. After all, we never really get the impression that he particularly cares about them, and his actions suggest that he doesn€™t value any human life besides his own. It€™s that level of irredeemableness that really sets Kane apart as a perfect villain. He€™s convinced himself that he has a noble goal that justifies his unforgivable acts of murder and mayhem. Sounds like the quintessential antagonist to me.
