10 Unintentionally Creepy Video Game Characters

8. Ness - Earthbound

Though Earthbound's 13-year-old protagonist is supposed to be thought of cute and adorable, one can't help but think that really he's more than a little creepy. It all stems, again, from those eyes; though he has a pleasant enough appearance and a sweet smile, those black eyes just look so empty and soulless, as though Ness is just a robot created with a children's look to fool the enemy. The fact that he's a PSI and is an extremely strong fighter only adds fuel to this theory, along with the absurdly clean-cut nature of his character; he will gladly help people who are nothing but hassle to him, and really, like Superman, this just makes him a little bland. Really, Ness is a victim of his own altruism. All this banality, however, is offset by the sinking feeling that something darker sits behind those eyes; one day the middle of them is going to turn red, and he'll enter Terminator mode. Until then, he's just an oddball character whose eyes betray the classic rule of animated characters - big eyes mean good, small eyes mean bad, while weird oval eyes mean...who knows what...
