6. The Conduit
A hardcore shooter on a softcore console. How could this have gone bad? Very easily, that's how. This one suffers from a disease that we gamers call "generic". That's what it is, it's generic, it's slow, it's nothing interesting. For a game which promised to bring the hardcore actions of shooters like Halo and Call of Duty to the Wii, exclusively, it really did just turn over and die in the water. Let's go back and take a look at it shall we? The Wii was at the top of its game, the highest selling next gen console thanks to the strategy of targeting casual gamers and families. Nintendo had their strategy and they were sticking to it. Meanwhile the other consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3, had the more "hardcore" gamers in their sights, providing the FPS and action adventure games which appealed to their market. My only guess is Nintendo wanted a slice of that pie too, hence the reason that The Conduit was conceived. The Wii was pushed to its limited to deliver this supposedly amazing action packed shooter. It seems as though the bar was set a little too high. The generic alien invasion card was played, as was the "only hero" card. That might have thrilled gamers somewhere around the late 90s to early 2000s but now its just cliche, overused and boring. Nintendo should just stick releasing what they know on their consoles: Mario game, another Mario game, maybe a new Zelda game or a remake.
