9. That First 'Smooth' Run - Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

Mirror's Edge Catalyst
EA

Promising free-roaming and increased depth to motion-focused combat, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst hopes to live up to the great standards set by the original. After playing through the beta, it's clear that the great elements in Mirror's Edge have been brought over, and have only been improved upon. No longer linear, there's plenty of map to free-run through, and the running feels better than ever.

Then again, we all know that those first couple of wall running and parkour attempts aren't going to be the smoothest. Sure, you'll get the first couple of jumps. After they start to get a bit more complicated though, with multiple button prompts and placements, you'll have a couple of (dis)graceful falls. Hey, it happens to the best of us. Once you get the hang of it, it'll make every player feel like a parkour master. You'll not only be able to move through a space quickly and efficiently, but take down a pair of security guards with a set of strategic kicks at the same time. That "struggle before you succeed" sensation will be truly felt as you move through the whole city with ease.

Original Mirror's Edge fans needn't fret, as the ability to free roam allows the smoothest first-person parkour experience to become even more enjoyable, removing the majority of the first game's linearity. Those moments where you perfectly scale a building in record time is just as satisfying as ever, just like those hard falls are just as shameful. At least there's no loud crunching noise on impact this time.
