At first glance, Zoochosis, an indie horror from developers Clapperheads, looks like a pleasant zoo simulator. Playing as a zookeeper on their first night on the job, players will interact with the zoo’s varied menagerie of adorable animals by preparing meals for them and cleaning up the enclosures.

As enjoyable as hanging out with penguins and kangaroos may sound, this is still a horror game, and it won’t be long before thing start to go horribly wrong.

It turns out that the animals in this zoo are infected with an unknown virus that transforms them into mutated creates that resemble something from a Cronenberg film, with the spider-like giraffes featured in the game’s trailer bound to turn anyone into an arachnophobe.

In addition to caring for the animals, players must also investigate the facility to discover the mysteries behind the virus and develop a vaccine to cure the creatures. However, player choice is set to play a significant role in this game. Not only will the decisions made effect which animals players save, but they’ll also determine which of the game’s many endings that players will get.

Expected to release in Q2 of 2024, Zoochosis is the perfect blend of zoo simulator and creature feature.
