7. Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

When we were told that the next Mario game was going to feature a genre the portly plumber had never touched, the mind genuinely boggled as to what that could be. Mario's been in everything from golf to tennis, kart racing and art design software, but even then, nobody saw a turn-based XCOM-lite coming.

Thankfully, so far Kingdom Battle looks exemplary. Being co-developed by Ubisoft, Mario and his pals are teaming up with the Minio- Rabbids, to take on the hoards of the Mushroom Kingdom one by one.

Thing is, like XCOM or Fire Emblem, you move one character a set number of units at a time, picking when to attack, defend, set up ambushes, trigger environmental attacks, etc.

It's highly strategic and a ludicrously intense when you're stacking the deck for a big win. As such, everything is lining up nicely, but we won't know more until August 29th.
