9. Final Fantasy XVI

Though he's since left Square Enix, Final Fantasy XV's creative director Hajime Tabata confirmed Final Fantasy 16 was in development, with its focus being on expanding FF XV's open-world structures and systems, while aiming to fix some of the focus-based issues that come with open-world stories.

FF XV was received quite positively (even though entire chapters were remixed and finalised post-launch), and Tabata mentioned the game's freeform exploration would carry forward, but intoned it's in a more direct fashion. FF XVI will still feature expansive areas, but by saying they're more like levels overall, it sounds like how Uncharted 4 had huge zones you could explore, without the game itself shifting into the open-world genre.
