Mundfish

Despite flying mostly under the radar up until now, Atomic Heart looks like a promising title which every Bioshock fan should know about. Taking place in a neo-dystopian caricature of the former Soviet Union, the reveal trailer strongly echoes the terrifying, otherworldly vibes of the Bioshock trilogy.

A project backed by Mundfish games, an independent studio hailing from Russia, the trailer is so totally gripping and out-of-left-field that those who aren’t even interested in the horror genre will be left dumbfounded.

From brutish robots, to monolithic statues, to nightmarish clowns and horrific experiments, there is a lot to like about Atomic Heart. Though there hasn’t been a set-in-stone release date announced yet, Mundfish has released a VR precursor to the game titled Soviet Lunapark which is currently available for download. The game is a sort of wave-based survival affair, and it seems to serve more as a proof of concept than anything else.

Releases like these are few and far between, and those captivated by the atmosphere of the Bioshock games will instantly fall in love with whatever this previously unknown development house is cooking up.
